AmericaUSA The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo 1848: Mexico ceded its northern territories to the U.S. under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (a interm Bill of Rights for the Conquered Mexicans in the newly acquired US territories) including all or parts of modern California, New Mexico, Arizona,Nevada,Utah, and Colorado

Based on legal, official and private documents as shown below,  the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo has been violated from its inception to the present time.  The treaty served as an Interim Bill of Rights for the Conquered Mexican in the Southwest and California.  "English only" is in direct opposition to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling which ratified the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo 1848 which protect the Conquered and their Rights.

    The children have suffered the most in this gross violation. From the time of  "English only" forced on to the conquered, IndoHispano, Mexican American, Chicano and other Americans of Hispanic heritage have been on a spiral downwards in schools.  Our dropout rate continues to worsen.  "English only" has failed *over and over*.

        The following further proves that Spanish was and continues to be the "Character", the "Custom" and the Way of Life for California and  U.S. Southwestern states;  this is in accordance with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ratified by the U.S. Congress 1848, which protects the rights,  the Spanish language of the conquered Mexican Americans.

         The Official  permanent and historical records of New Mexico and Arizona  reflect the "Character" of the "U.S." was and still is Spanish. This is noted on the following  official U.S., Spanish, Mexican, U.S.Congressional, Newspapers both in Spanish & English and other Documents:

    The official NM site is at http://www.state.nm.us/cpr/ahsd_top.htm

    • the official records of the Spanish government in New Mexico, 1598-1821 (the earliest surviving document is dated 1621) [Spanish];

    • Sixteenth Century to Present: Private papers: deeds, letters, diaries, wills, maps, and photographs pertaining to New Mexico or the Southwest [Spanish and English].

    • Early U.S. Congressional reports attacked New Mexicans because of their lack of English. As the historian Robert Larsen has written on this subject, a report which accompanied the Territory’s 1893 petition for statehood "attacked the contention that statehood should be withheld until every inhabitant had learned to read and write the English language, because this was contrary to the understanding which had existed among those who signed the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo."
