St. Johns family traces its  roots to Conquistador

The Bacas of St. Johns (San Juan) trace their ancestry
directly to the Conquistador Cabeza de Vaca and their
family briefly held the largest Spanish land grants ever
confirmed in Arizona.

One of the earliest settlers of St. Johns was
Don Marcos Baca, son of Don Luis Maria Baca, who was
the holder of the 500,000 acre land grant and a descendant
of the famous explorer of the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

Cabez de Vacas' descendants eventually settled in San Miguel
New Mexico, and prospered.

Don Luis Maria Baca came north to settle on 500,000
acres near Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Captain Union Army, Marcos Baca was born in Los Chavez, New Mexico.  He and his wife Dona Maria Chavez de San Juan, and others left Los Chavez for what is now Arizona.  They settled in San Juan, which is named after Maria Chavez de San Juan Baca.

Captain Baca is a descendant of Don Marcos Baca, who was son of Don Luis Maria Baca, and who is a direct descendant of Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca.  (I have copies of the legal documents reflecting this).

Captain Marcos Baca was the Justice of the Peace in San Juan (St Johns),
Arizona when the first English speakers entered the Spanish speaking northern Arizona towns. (I also have copies of the official documents reflecting this).
