Arthur P. Romero
World War II, Korea, Cuban Missil Crisis, Vietnam
Chief Romero Retires After 41 Years of Naval Service:
During the thick of World War II in 1943, Arthur Padilla Romero volunteered
for Naval service to serve his country. Forty-one (41) years later,
on 6 May 1984, Arthur Padilla Romero, with family, friends, and shipmates
in attendance, proudly retired in an impressive ceremony at the Columbus
Naval & Marine Corps Reserve Center.
Chief' Romero's career spanned a period of dramatic changes and events in
the Navy, World War II, the Korean War, the advent of the nuclear-powered
Navy, the Cuban missile crisis and Vietnam. The length of his service
is a testament to his patriotism and his dedication.
A list of duty stations to which Chief Romero has been assigned reads like
the Standard Navy Distribution List. He has pulled active and training
duty on fighting ships of the line (e.g., aircraft carriers), service ships
(e.g., repair ships and destroyer tenders), shoreside dental clinics, school
commands, and believe it or not, infantry training at Camp Lejeune.
Chief Romero is married to the former Jean Colleen Campbell,
and has six (6) children. He resides in Chillicothe, Ohio and is employed
as a safety equipment technician at the Goodyear Atomic facility in Piketon,
Ohio.
On the occasion of his retirement, we wish to thank
Chief Romero for his countless contributions to the Navy Reserve, and may
he have "Fair Winds and Following Seas."
