Dear JBR:
I accidentally got into the website of New Mexcico's Hispanic veterans of the Bataan campaign in the Philippines and while browsing got your E-Mail address.
I am now an elderly person whose folks were natives of Bataan province. I remember well the terrible war years, the fall of Bataan, the Death March (I had many relatives who were in the Army and in that march) and the deprivation of three years of Japanese occupation and Liberation by American troops (I remeber the 1st Cavalry Division) in February of 1945.
Just about 10 days ago, I watched with sadness as Jane Pauley of NBC dateline featured veterans of the Korean war as they celebrated the inauguration of a memorial in Washington DC to honor the sacrifice of these men in what historians call the "Forgotten War."
I wrote to NBC and asked them to do a feature about the Filipino and American soldiers who died and undured so much pain and suffering in the defense of the Philippine Islands at a time when America faced its greatest peril in the Pacific. I am saddened by the fact that there isn't a single memorial in Washington DC to honor the Filipino and American soldiers who died and fought in Bataan and Corregidor! They are truly America"s forgotten soldiers.
If there is anything I can do for you from this end of the world, please send me an E-Mail. I will be only too glad to so something for the Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor.
Yours truly,
JAMES LITTON
