                               Romero

Bartolome Romero came as an Alferez in 1598.  He was thiry-five then, the                        son of Bartolome Romero and a native of Corralde Almaguer (east of Toledo).
Already in 1597 he is mentioned as married toLucia Lopez (Luisa Lopez                       Robledo), who came with him and her young family. Bartolome figured quite                        prominently in the Oñate annals; he was promoted to captain shortly after the                       colony arrived in New Mexico.

His children were:  Bartolome II, Matias, Agustin, Ana, wife of Francisco                        Gomez, and Maria, married to Gaspar Perez.
